DSD passthrough to a DSD-capable DAC

The 1 bit 2822.4 KHz line is indeed baffling. Since you have converted it to PCM in the player, then Wiim should only see that. It is possible that the header of the file the player sends still have 1 bit and 2822.4 Hz in the metadata and Wiim is just picking that up and reporting it, even...

    DSD to PCM transcode on-the-fly

In the Wiim Ultra Q&A, Wiim says they are developing a feature to convert DSD to PCM on the fly. No other details given. See question 11 in the Q&A.

DSD passthrough to a DSD-capable DAC

What do you mean by "1 bit PCM"? PCM, by definition, is multi-bit. 1 bit data at 2.822 MHz is DSD. Not sure why you would call that PCM. DoP is a 24 bit PCM format, with each of 16 bits just one of the DSD values, which is then converted back to native DSD format by the DAC before playing...

Meet WiiM Ultra - The Digital Hub for Your Music

Pretty much ever CD player used 2 V signals. Other equipment typically aligned with that. It became a defacto standard in the consumer audio market. However, over time many consumer devices such as AVRs have adopted a 1V standard for their inputs. Many higher end components including many DACS...

    Snake oil update! 🐍

You should try Vinyl Studio on some of your digitized files. The results are not sterile etc. as you describe - at least not to me and others who listen to my rips. But, to each his own.

    Snake oil update! 🐍

If by software filters, you mean the pop and click removal, you should note that the original music is already badly distorted by the pop or click. Removing the imperfections returns it to pretty much the original form, although you can never guarantee it is exactly the original form. In my...

    Snake oil update! 🐍

Some people like the sound of vinyl, some do not and most do not care. Stream a song to your phone and you will probably never hear the difference. So, the record companies do the cheapest thing, which is to do a digital master for digital playback. Doing a vinyl master, pressing some copies...

    Snake oil update! 🐍

I have ripped several hundred LPs with a high quality commercial A to D converter at 192/24 and processed them with Vinyl Studio, including click and pop and hiss removal. The results are pretty much identical to playing the original vinyl, with the pops, clicks and hiss removed. This includes...

    Snake oil update! 🐍

Most original vinyls were remastered for CD, so it is hard to find an exact comparison. But, even if you do, the playback mechanisms create different sounds. Vinyl playback, like tubes, creates more even harmonics that many believe creates a sense of warmth, richness, and depth that CDs do not...

Vinyl Studio does a very good job of taking out the clicks, pops and hiss.

The main reason most people use balanced connections is to prevent problems with EM interference. It can sometimes help with ground loops but often does not. And, contrary to the video, the ground on the balanced cable (pin 1) is connected to the equipment ground. In fact, one solution to ground...

    WiiM Ultra

Balanced cables do not, in general, reduce ground loops, which are caused by the grounds of different equipment being at slightly different voltages. They are designed to make very solid electrical connections, which can be a problem with some unbalanced cables. That can reduce hum, Balanced...

    Turntable Confusion! Help Please!!

As much as I like keeping the analog signal analog, a good A to D to A converter can sound as good as the straight analog signal. I digitized hundreds of my albums with a high-quality A to D and use a high-quality D to A and cannot hear the difference between the original and the digitized...

    Turntable Confusion! Help Please!!

What is your turntable? What cartridge are you using? The quality of the rest of the system should match the input source. If the turntable is not going to the whole house, why not just use an analog only integrated amp to drive your speakers? That would avoid the A to D to A conversion...
