There's such a thing as under promising and overdelivering. One could infer that Wiim are well aware of this given that when they trailed the amp, IIRC, a price was hinted at that was higher than what the eventual price turned out to be.

My suspicion (and I'm always willing to be proven wrong) is that there is no reason why audio electronics should cost exorbitant amounts. A good design can be replicated at infinitum, there's nothing in it that has to be particularly expensive., or handmade, or use angels' tears.

The speaker thing, I suspect, is inevitable. I'd like to see something more along the lines of Q Acoustics M20/M40 but with WiiM built-in rather than single speakers that can be paired.
There's clearly an established relationship with Edifier so that could be put to use…
I wouldn't be surprised if an upgraded Amp is coming. If the amount of coverage is anything to go by, the Amp is the success I thought it would be, and IMO the only reasonable complaint about it is its power output.
(If I'm right, do I get to beta test?)
This is damning with faint praise from What Hifi which seldom gives anything short of four stars, but I'm not sure a five star review would be welcomed by many of their advertisers.
Chromecast.
I tried squeezebox first but volume controls etc were pretty ropey. Chromecast is great, honestly syncing with other RAAT endpoints is the only thing missing for me.
