I have to agree. I also have a Node a numerous WIIM/Linkplay(Arylic) based streamers and with spdif out on the same Dac can tell no difference that could no be put down to my mood at the time. The only reason the node is still in the main system is the usb out. Usb to a Topping HS02 and the to a...
Agree, and this is probably the thing that gets me thinking about 'blind tests'. A/Bing of two things doing similar things like playing music without something familiar in the mix is something I find very hard.
I remember reading an interview with Tony Andrews of Function One fame. And he said...
I suppose it can be quite difficult these days to get a hifi shop where you can listen before you buy. There is always buy and send back within 14 days or whatever, but thats a bit of effort. I have 3 hifi shops near me that you can listen to kit like Denon, NAD etc but none stock a Topping or...
This reminds me of the argument about AVR measurements in the mid to late 2000's between discrete and integrated amplifier power measurements. As I remember Denon used to use discrete amplifier stages and would give their output as xxW RMS 'all channels driven' and Onkyo using integrated amp...
The only reason I have come up with to have two streaming services, Amazon and Qobuz is the breath of content. There is just some stuff that they each have that the other does not. Either that or the algorithm works differently on the same content. I did drop Qobuz for a few months and try and...
I have to agree, not only the tweaks but also some of the evolved functionality of Bubbleupnp is really good. I especially like the Random Albums/Tracks function when you just don't know quite what to listen to.
Most usb dongle dacs are designed for mobile phone usage so are designed to be power efficient. Check the specs if they say they can be used with usb 2.0 ports (via an adapter) then they should work as usb 2.0 is 480ma max current. The last time I looked at the output specs of one, a shanling I...
I would have thought a small usb dongle dac would be quite neat looks wise, not take up much room, relatively inexpensive and depending on the model chosen give a balanced output. Good for the desk use rather than have a separate rca input headphone amp/box if space etc is an issue.
I would be quite interested in the results of a test of the coaxial config on the ifi spdif purifier. I use delock ethernet isolation devices on all the ethernet connections of music streamers I have. They are a bit cheaper, but they not specifically designed for audio use. Happy with the...
OK, think I get what you are saying. Is it like taking a 'helicopter' view of a series of test results and from your experience testing knowing roughly what this would translate to in terms of performance in your own system?
Hi @onlyoneme just as a matter of interest, and not trying to be funny, what is the level/bar/measurement a dac needs to hit to be regarded as audibly transparent.
I raised a ticket and ended up getting it replaced, under warranty, after they looked at logs etc. However i was clearing out some old electronics for recycling and pulled the broken Mini out and plugged it and just in case a few months later. It picked up a new firmware and started working. I...
Wiim streaming modules have a hotspot function and will broadcast a SSID. The SSID does not broadcast when the wiim is connected to your home network.
I have in the past, on a31 based modules, used this to manually setup the device and input my WiFi's details, you can try that assuming the...
A good passive volume control after the dac stage is fine. I use a ALPS27 one but have used a Fostex studio one as well. I would say as long as you are not getting any channel bleed or noise then you are good.
