Exactly! Not very useful. Apple, in its 'protected garden’ wisdom does a very poor promoting their streaming service. They know that 99% of their Music subscribers do not care or are able to distinguish proper streaming playback.
FYI there’s no clock in the data. The clock is generated in the streamer to push the data at its recorded clock rate. On advanced USB input DACs the stream is buffered and the clock is regenerated with a precision clock.
The WiiM clock via SPDIF/coax is not bad but I can hear an improvement...
It will not be the case if Ultra creeps up above $300. I posted (removed) an example of a Pro paired with another product that is superior and under that price.
The Pro sells for $140. A Pro with USB out - $150.
For those who want a streamer only the Pro is ok. It needs a USB that’s all.
For those who want a streamer and a basic analog preamp with a great headphone amp just add a Schiit Magni+. Total (Pro and Magni) under $290.
I followed your instructions. I get Aurplay. Please post detailed screenshots.
In any case you are describing a hands-off cast pipeline like Chromecast, which Apple does support.
I would bet Linkplay will never offer a true analog balanced output. But time will tell. XLR sockets does not imply balanced… plenty of those and fooled customers.
Of course not. It’s a digital hub but no analog volume control. A digital volume control degrades the digital signal - essentially cuts down resolution (bits) as it ‘lowers’ the volume. Ok in a boombox. Unacceptable in a decent hi-fi system. To each his own.
Many opinions. A lot of emotion from many posters. My opinions/interests do not matter in the grand scheme of things. I simply represent a fairly large number of WiiM customers who just want WiiM's excellent streamer with a clean USB out port.
I own a Mini and a Pro, both connected to high...
So the Ultra has a phono preamp. Does it offer different gain levels for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges? Does it offer facilities to change cartridge loading (load resistance and capacitance) ? If the answer is no to that… it’s a mediocre offering of no interest to serious vinyl listeners.
It would be ironic that a product primarily requested by Pro users to include a USB port will be passed by those customers who see no justification to pay much more than the Pro price (US$150) for a product with that extra feature.
