I thought 'UPnP casting' would be to non-WiiM UPnP renderers, the vast majority of which don't implement Songcast, so whether WiiM does or not really doesn't matter. If by UPnP casting you mean to non-WiiM devices then surely that won't include grouping at all, or at least not synchronised?

Not at present, nor have I seen such a feature request so it might be worth creating one in the WiiM Home App Feature Request forum.

It's likely a discovery problem rather than them being offline, so I'd expect them to respond to the http query. You could also try manually configuring their IP address in the WiiM app, maybe just for one initially.
