Digital volume control question - which is better?

Hi. I still use it with the wiim controlling the volume and the m500 set as a fixed 20db attenuator giving me a good range of control on the wiim that is mostly in its top 3/4 of digital travel (in other words both are digitally attenuating the signal - probably less than optimal.). The plan...

    12 volt trigger out

Hi. Excellent playing around and a good find! It sounds like it has some sort of soft-start and is simply delaying the power to the relays - as do the other solutions. I didn't want you to risk destroying the wiim if you were using a boost convertor but this probably is a safe ( though slightly...

    12 volt trigger out

Hi. Just a bit puzzled and please accept my apologies if I am checking something obvious. Do you really mean Buck convertor? If you did get this working then I guess the convertor must be delaying the output current until the wiim output has reached a nominal level - in other words - a rather...

    12 volt trigger out

Just another thought about the 12v Trigger unable to start up into a load. I am using a USB hub to power all the bits in my AC rack. In theory it has plenty of power available (2A total - 1A per output and I'm only running the wiim -200mA and harmony hub - maybe < 350mA). I just wondered if the...

    12 volt trigger out

This works and seems 100% reliable: was using bits I had. It would be better with a 9.1v zener and change both resistors to the same value - in the range 680-1k5

    12 volt trigger out

I have reported a bug to Wiim on the wiim Pro 12v trigger output. It will actually source well over 100mA but is actually not capable of starting up if the load relay is connected. This is even a problem with a 1K resistor as a load (12mA). resistor load). . I have resorted to an inline circuit...

Digital volume control question - which is better?

That's very helpful thanks. The differenec as you say is very slight. I'll start with using the wiim to control volume purely because I have two way comms with it and can tell where I left the volume. I will use the M500 as a dumb DAC initially and see how it plays out.

Digital volume control question - which is better?

Ha! I know that - but I also know that that I can't hear when doing A-B testing goes out the window several months later when playing a certain track and something 'edgy' creeps in - or I think it does. Like most hifi fanatics I swing from 'that sounds great' to 'something's not quite right'...

Digital volume control question - which is better?

Thanks - that would be best solution probably but my problem is that I wasn't going to have a preamp at all other than the two step relay attenuator so I have to use one or other of the digital volume controllers. (I do have a motorised pot that I could build into something - but that would take...

Digital volume control question - which is better?

Thanks for the comment. I understand the basics of this but now have a totally digital system up to the power amp inputs - excluding the relay attenuator that is. My reason for the relay attenuator is that the system has two modes - no attenuation - for parties and louder music and 30dB...

Digital volume control question - which is better?

24bit 96Khz source in most cases. Is it possible to determine if using digital volume in the wiim pro or an external DAC (SMSL M500 in my case) is better? Scenario one - use digital volume in wiim pro feeding optical into M500 DAC set at fixed volume Scenario two - use fixed volume in wiim pro...

Allow the wiim home android app to be launched from another app

I run homeremote as my android (12) interface to all things automation including media (and wiim mini). The one hole in the system is that I cannot launch wiimhome from within home remote as intents no longer work on android 11 and later. I am aware of the http api and have implemented control...

Wiim mini not discovered by Alexa

SOLVED. It was a UTS fault. I disabled both Amazon Music and Amazon Alexa in the mange Music services tab of the app. I quit the app and then restarted and added both back in again. When asked I entered the same Amazon account for both. The difference was then it asked if Wiim could have access...

Wiim mini not discovered by Alexa

Two or three days ago I setup a wiim mini using toslink to Transporter DAC. I have 4 Alexas and also use Amazon music unlimited. Everything is up to date and all on the same subnet. The Wiim is 5ghz and the alexas on 2.4Ghz. Everything worked correctly except the Alexa world is not aware of the...
