Mainstream audio is getting afraid

I think the following are things that WiiM still have to ‘learn’ from AVRs.

1 - Comes with its own calibrated mic.
2 - Includes delay settings.
3 - Erm…I think that’s probably about it.

I cannot say I disagree. None of this was mentioned as the oh so bad disadvantages of the WiiM Amp in that video, though. ;)

Finding a more reliable way to perform robust measurements is certainly one of the more important (and not so easy) tasks.

Ideally I would like to see a way to make use of an existing high quality USB mic, being able to use an existing calibration file. For me, this was the top notch solution. Providing a standard WiiM microphone is another one, of course, but as with your typical AVR the quality would certainly be limited at this price point. Making this mic an optional add-on might allow for better quality for those who are interested, without compromising value for those who are not.

Many ways to skin the cat, but no matter how it's done, the cat won't survive. 🤪
