My setup is pretty modest with the WiiM Pro Plus as the streamer and DAC feeding an Emotiva pre-amp into a Boxem Audio Arthur 4215/E2 Purify Eigentakt based class-D amp. Speakers are either my 15" full-range open baffles or KEF LS50 Metas. Both speaker setups use a KEF KC62 sub crossed over at ~90Hz.
I may add an external DAC at some point but for now I'm very happy with the WiiM Pro Plus built in DAC until I work on room treatment. I mainly stream Tidal and it works flawlessly. I've even started using the PEQ based on recommended settings that come out of running a frequency sweep using the Housecurve iOS app.
